Kids Cricket Tips – A Bowlers Ideal Run Up
This post aims to give kids cricket tips on how to effectively mark a run up when bowling. The ideal run up is one which allows you to reach the crease at maximum momentum whilst retaining balance and control. Imagine a long jumpers run up, it is rhythmically controlled and has to be perfected, this is the case with bowling in the fact that the front foot should always cut the popping crease.
Kids should be taught, when playing cricket, to measure their run up by starting at the crease at the non-striker’s end. They should push off with either foot (but remember which one) and start running outwards and away from the stumps. As the player is running there will become a point where they will feel like it is a natural time to bowl.
They should go through the action of bowling at this point without actually releasing the cricket ball. Somebody should watch the kids to see where their front front lands, they should repeat this a few times to ensure that their front foot is consistently landing in the same area. Once this has been carried out the player should count the number of normal steps it takes to travel from the popping crease to the point that was marked. This will be the number of steps that will be used to mark the players run up in the future.
